Amira Warren works from within to push change

By Lauryn Duncan, JCamp Reporter

Amira Warren’s passion for journalism began in elementary school, and it would seem to be a given that it was that early interest that would prompt her to join her high school newspaper.

Not entirely so: It was her dislike for her high school newspaper that got her to join. If you want to fix something, she said, you have to join and help push change.

At 17, Warren has accomplished quite a lot.

She runs the Black History Month program at her school, St.Louis Park Senior High School in Minnesota. Her aim is to expand the program, which she took over from a teacher.

Warren is also involved in the Model United Nations program and various performing arts, including the show choir and being the lead in several school musicals.
